There are already many city walks in Budapest. oFFTOURS will take you to discover places that are not on the traditional tourist routes, we are heading towards small towns with a long history near Budapest. Our professional, local guides will guide you to the hidden places of Sztálinváros (Stalincity) and show you that there are interesting and exciting places in Hungary beyond the nine-hole bridge and Lake Balaton. You can get to know the past of the cities through the personal stories of our leaders. In Stálinváros you will be guided by Dávid Hegyi, music composer & media professional, or Tamás Horváth, the owner of dunaujvarosmesel.hu. The construction of Sztálinváros (Stalincity) started just 70 years ago on the edge of Mezőföld, on the loess Danube bank, and it was the largest investment in the first five-year plan of communist Hungary. The gigantic iron and steel plant and the city built next to it attracted peasants, workers, and adventurers from all over the country, so Sztálinváros became one of the country’s major melting pots.
It is a made-up city, its architecture is unique throughout Europe, its 100-meter-wide main road, the blocks of the city grew in a few years on the wheat and corn fields. In the “first socialist city” dreamed up together with the Soviet architects, nothing was left to chance, even with the layout of the streets and squares, its inhabitants had to be educated for hard work and a proper socialist society.

The “ugly” industrial city tells a story, it opens up and it turns out that the contemporary steel sculptures, huge parks, and the memories of the ancient Intercisa are just as much a part of the city as the panel houses. The everyday struggles, joys, and stories of the heroic age of the fifties are of course brought to life by a local resident.
